St Justin of Cornwall Square Knotwork Box
|
|
The ancient Celts saw life as a continuous flowing entity, with no beginning or end. Much of their work is depicted by spirals or knots to represent everything as linked, a symbol of eternity. Inspiration for knotwork comes from the designs found in the 7th-9th century illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells or the Lindisfarne Gospels. This square pewter box has a lid decorated with Celtic knotwork. Box measures 2 3/8" square. Gift boxed. |
