Orkney, Scotland jewellery designer, Sheila Fleet, creates beautiful and inspirational pieces crafted of hand-fired enamel, Sterling silver, gold and platinum.
Sheila’s designs are inspired by her surroundings and the vibrant colors of the Orkney sea, sky, and land. The rich influence of these elements is evident in the colors of her enamels-sky, twilight, flame, or bow waves, to name a few. The ancient archaeology and history of the Orkney area also inspires Sheila, reflected in the Ogham and Runic collections, based on ancient alphabets found on artifacts during archaeological digs.
Following her graduation from Edinburgh College of Art, Sheila worked for 26 years as a designer in the trade before setting up on her own back home in Tankerness, Orkney in 1993. Sheila Fleet Jewellery is a family owned and operated business which made those of us at Cara Magnus feel a real connection when we met Sheila and her son Martin at a trade fair in
Glasgow in 2002. We are particularly excited about the new Flight Inspirations collection because of our location on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, home of the first flight, which celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Wright Brothers Memorial in December 2003.
